Session #2 – Your Structured Business Coaching

  1. Review session 1 assignments.
  2. Introduce/review 30 second commercial.
  3. Introduce/review ‘Introductory Presentation
  4. Email rough draft of Friends & Family Letter

Assignments for the coming week:

  1. Find/attend a local Toastmasters group.
  2. Research/find and talk with local Chamber of Commerce groups, BNI and other networking groups
  3. Find out how many members they have
  4. Find out about their fees to join
  5. Find out when their meetings are
  6. Create a master ‘networking’ calendar and post all meetings for all networking groups on this calendar.
  7. Attend as many networking meetings as will fit into your schedule. (Test them out, find the best fit for you—-be willing to spend a month on this)
  8. Create your “Friends & Family’ letter—send in a copy for review.
    Set a goal to achieve 30 conversations with business owners in the next month (by session 5)

Prepare to report each week:

  1. Which business owners did you talk to?
  2. What was the outcome (Appointment or not)?
  3. Why was that the result? (What went right or wrong)

The Four Stages of Skill Development

1.    Unconscious Incompetence – We don’t know what we don’t know or can’t do. Example: I am perfectly happy not thinking about playing the piano.

2.    Conscious Incompetence – We become aware of what we don’t know or can’t do and seek to learn. We look at others’ skills we desire and say, “I wish I could do that!”  Example: I attend a concert where a piano virtuoso plays a piece that stirs my desire to learn to play the piano.  I am aware that I don’t know how, but now I want to learn.

3.    Conscious Competence – We begin to apply new knowledge and skills.  This may be awkward and difficult at first, but with conscious effort and practice, we work our way through it.  Example: I take piano lessons.  At first it is hard to keep my fingers on the right keys and learn to read the music.  However, if I take it slow and continue to practice, I can work through it.

4.    Unconscious Competence – Through constant and repeated practice, we begin to use the knowledge and/or skill without thinking about it.  We make it look easy and natural.  Others look at our skills and say, “I wish I could do that!”   Example:  I keep practicing.  One day while I am practicing, I realize my hands are moving by themselves.  They remember the song I am playing, and I don’t have to think about it.  I can concentrate on phrasing and infusing my spirit into my music.  I can talk with my wife while I am playing.  I even intuit changes I can make to ad lib the melody or harmony.  I have made the transition from PRACTICING to PLAYING.

As you progress through your coaching program, you will also move from PRACTICE to PLAY!  Have fun!

Declaring to the Universe

Even though you receive many products and services as part of the Master Coaching Program, the greatest value you receive comes from your personal contribution to the program.  Your efforts will compound and multiply what we provide.

To enjoy optimal success, you must do more than just attend your coaching sessions.  You must take the skills, principles and strategies you learn, apply them, and cash them in. Acting on what you learn will get you consistent and continual results, enabling you to build and sustain your marketing machine, long after you complete the Master Coaching program.  From this effort you will gain the most valuable skill in today’s marketplace: the ability to secure your own clients at will. In fact, when it comes to results, what you contribute is much more important than what you receive from us.

This is the concept of Xn.  We are the X, and you are the n.  We are the constant, because we provide a consistent process that we know will work from one Master Coaching student to the next.  You are the n, or the exponent, because your efforts don’t just add to what we do, but they make the Master Coaching program exponentially more powerful.  If you remember your math lessons, the exponent determines MAGNITUDE.  The more you contribute, the more your effort will come back to you in greater magnitudes of success.  When the exponent is 0 (if you do nothing), even our best efforts of to coach you will get you no results.

After conducting hundreds of Master Coaching programs, we have observed many different students and found a consistent correlation for success.  Here are the things that successful students have had in common.

  • An open mind.
  • A willing heart:

−     to make and keep commitments.
−     to be comfortable being uncomfortable, ever expanding their comfort zone.
−     to stand up and speak out.
−     to explore the needs of potential clients.
−     to ask for appointments.
−     to ask for money.
−     to work through resistance.

More specifically they have:

  • Kept their coaching appointments.
  • Completed their assignments on time.
  • Joined and actively worked a Chamber of Commerce or other networking groups.
  • Established several key natural relationships/strategic partnerships.
  • Spoke to several people every week to introduce themselves and set appointments.
  • Worked through resistance from potential clients with their “can do” attitude.
  • Followed up with each prospect as if it represented a $30,000 opportunity.
  • Demonstrated their value using the presentation outline introduced in the UPB.
  • Asked for the money and expected to get paid for their valuable work.
  • Used the flat fee pricing strategy and arranged for automatic payment.

These are the things you will do to succeed.  Many of them may not sound comfortable to you now.  You may even doubt that you can do them at this point.  That is why the coaching process is so important.  You will become proficient in all these areas only if you make a continual effort and work the coaching process to build your skill and confidence in each area. We’ll start where you are most comfortable and expand from there.  If you are open to learning and growth, you are in for an exciting process.

This information will allow you and our Senior Adviser to assess the best way for you to grow your business and develop a solid game plan to make it happen.

1)      How serious are you about growing your own business? (1-10) 10 being most serious and committed to it’s success.

2)      How many hours per week can you devote to the growth of your business?

3)      What obstacles are holding you back or impeding your progress?

4)      Do you have the necessary financial resources to market your business for 2-3 months until a consistent income can be created?

5)      Where do you want your business to be in 1 year’s time? (Number of clients, income, lifestyle etc.)

6)      What strengths do you feel you have that will help you in your marketing?
