Startup Nation suggests that when possible small businesses rewind, reflect and refocus this holiday season.  Because, if you have time to read this, chances are you are not in the retail business which means the holidays are probably a slow time for your practice, offering you the opportunity to ponder how this year has gone and where you’d like to direct your future.  Here are some ways you might accomplish that:

1. Assess yourself and your business. Now’s the perfect time to reflect on where your business is, if you have one, and whether or not you’re satisfied with its progress.  If necessary, gather reports and analyze numbers in order to truly measure your current standing.  Only then can you make some solid decisions about where you’d like to see your business go in the future.

2. Resolve to leap forward. If you’ve always wanted to launch your own business and haven’t yet had the courage, know-how or will to do so, now is the time to make that leap.  Use the holiday season make a resolution and proactively move forward.

3. Set some goals. If you’ve assessed your business standing, you’ve probably determined things you need to do differently in the future.  This is a great place to start when constructing your goals for the New Year.

4. Recharge. And, of course, what holiday vacation would be complete without a little relaxing?  Taking some time off enables you to recharge your battery so you can tackle the New Year with determination and vigor.

If your business lags a bit around the holidays, it’s no time to despair.  Be grateful for the extra time to rewind, reflect and refocus!

What helps you best reflect on your professional standing?  We welcome your comments!

Are You Ready to Launch Your Own Accounting Practice?

Starting your own accounting practice is a great enterprise that may require less time, energy, and capital than you imagined.  Some would spend hours on a university campus earning an accounting degree that enables them to work with big businesses, which comprise less than 10% of accounting opportunities.

Where do the bulk of these accounting opportunities reside?  With small local businesses in need of freelance accountants.  You could easily become the premier accountant in your area, gaining a competitive advantage by specializing in small-business accounting.

Professional Bookkeeper Program

Over 25 years ago Universal Accounting Center (UAC) recognized a need.  Small businesses were failing as the result of poor financial management.  And the majority of accountants were not trained to respond to their unique needs.  In creating the Professional Bookkeeper (PB) Program, UAC designed a course that trains students in the day-to-day tasks required by small business.  The PB program not only produces small-business accountants, but Profit Experts who enable the small-business owner to make more informed and lucrative business decisions.

Countless students have benefitted from this training as evidenced by the hundreds of testimonials we have received.  Here are just a few:

You’ll be glad to know that in the time since I completed the course, I have gone from 1 client, a friend of mine, to 27 clients in a matter of just 8 months. I’m finally realizing the potential that I always knew I had.—V. A. VonTonder

As an average, for each client I am making about $30 – $50 an hour, I’ve been able to quit my full-time job. Thanks again to everyone at Universal Accounting Center! It has created for me a brighter outlook financially, as well as more free time in my personal life. And, I didn’t have to go to college for years and pay thousands of dollars for an education.—S. Thomas

In four weeks, your course taught me everything, and I mean everything, I would need to know about starting my home bookkeeping business. I am making more money than I did when I was employed full-time and I arrange my schedule to fit my needs, not arrange my life to fit my job’s. I can honestly say, this was the best investment I have ever made in my life! – S. Myers
