When to Ask for a Referral and Other Ways to Grow Your Business

You might think it best to ask for referrals from your oldest, most loyal clients.  But the truth is, our pleasure with a product and/or service wanes after time passes.  That’s why it’s generally best to ask clients for referrals when they have been with you less than one year.  This is called the “Honeymoon Effect.”

And when it comes to referrals, you’ll get even more if you expand your services and make your offerings appealing to a wider prospective client base.

Get More Clients by Expanding Your Services

We’re guessing you currently have clients who come to you for accounting services.  Maybe you serve them part-time or maybe you serve them full-time.  If you’ve ever considered growing your business and your bottom line, consider increasing your service offerings.

Think of all your clients.  How many would benefit from tax preparation services in addition to the accounting services you currently offer?  And how many more would be interested in QuickBooks services?  Now think of potential clients and consider that a large number of them would also be interested in retaining an accountant as well. Offering additional financial services increases the value of a referral because they would most likely come to you for multiple services, increasing your income as they increase your client base.

Become a Professional Tax Preparer (PTP)

Many tax preparers make more money in the months leading up to the April 15 tax deadline than others make all year long! Since all individuals and businesses, small or large, are required to file taxes, tax preparation is a respected skill that will always be in demand.  Also, more and more are becoming weary of tax preparers without any credentials.  The Tax Preparer Designation will put many of those individuals at ease, assuring them that you have been properly trained in tax preparation.

Become a QuickBooks Specialist

Over 80% of small businesses owners use Intuit’s QuickBooks to manage their finances.  The Professional Bookkeeper’s Guide to QuickBooks will train you how to use this valuable software, enabling you to offer your skills to those who need setup and consultation services.  As an accounting and tax professional, you would also be the one these clients come to for other services.  After working through the Guide you can choose to become a QuickBooks Specialist, adding this designation to your wall with all the others.

If you start today, you could earn both designations by the end of the year.  Imagine, you could expand your services while enhancing your credentials by next tax season!  Don’t delay.  The power of one referral increases exponentially when you have more services to offer.  Call Universal at 1-877-833-7909 to enroll now.
